Great article about a group of people in New York City who are proposing Game School, a proposed New York City public school that will use "game design and
game-inspired methods" to educate sixth through 12th graders.
If you're familiar with game-based learning, much of the reasoning behind this will be familiar--games promote problem-solving and social interaction. Some of the curriculum they're proposing troubles me though. Most notably, the alternate reality games used to study science. Personally, I feel that it's nearly impossible to replace direct experience when it comes to learning. I'd hate to see a game used to teach something that can be learned in a hands-on situation.
A Win-Win Scenario: 'Game School' Aims to Engage and Educate
