I'm tyring a new lesson format this week in math class. It goes like this:
(1)Time on task.
(2)Reflect.
(3)Share.
Working in groups, students solve several related problems. Using the information from the problems, they then write down in their learning logs any patterns that they notice. After several minutes, I then ask a few students to share what they wrote and provide an example on the overhead for the edification of all. The goal of this to increase dialogue, collaboration, and construction of knowledge with minimal teacher input. By the way, the learning target is "describe the difference between rational and irrational numbers."
